The short version
Sorty is a self-guided tool for thinking things through. It is not therapy, not medical care, and not an emergency service. What you write belongs to you, you can export or delete it whenever you like, and we will not sell it. You need to be 18 or over. Crisis resources are always free and never depend on paying.
1. These terms, and agreeing to them
These terms are a contract between you and Sorty, operated at gosorty.com from the State of Georgia, United States. By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Sorty.
Our privacy policy and community guidelines form part of these terms. You can reach us at hello@gosorty.com.
2. This is not therapy or medical care
This is the most important section here, so it is not buried.
Sorty gives you a private space to put things down and work through them, with an AI companion and a set of structured exercises. It is self-guided support and nothing more than that.
- ·It is not psychotherapy, counselling, diagnosis or treatment, and no part of it constitutes medical advice.
- ·Nobody involved is acting as your clinician. No therapist, doctor, nurse or counsellor reviews your conversations, and no professional relationship is created by using Sorty.
- ·The companion is an AI. It can be wrong, it can misread you, it can miss something serious, and it has no qualification in your particular situation.
- ·It is not a substitute for professional care, and nothing it says should delay you seeking some.
Do not disregard advice from a qualified professional, or delay getting it, because of something you read here. If you are already under someone’s care, Sorty is meant to sit alongside that, not replace it.
3. Emergencies and crisis
Sorty is not an emergency service and is not monitored. If you are in immediate danger, or you are thinking about harming yourself, contact emergency services or a crisis line now.
Nobody is watching your account. We do not contact emergency services, your family, your doctor or anyone else on your behalf, and writing something here will never cause someone to be sent to you. If you need a person to intervene, you have to reach the people and services who can.
The app shows crisis resources when it detects language suggesting risk, but that detection is automated, imperfect, and will miss things. Never rely on it.
Our crisis page lists numbers you can call or text. It is always free, always available without an account, and never depends on a subscription.
4. You need to be 18
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account, and by doing so you confirm that you are. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 and will delete an account if we learn it belongs to a minor.
5. Your account
Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, and should tell us at hello@gosorty.com if you think someone else has access to it.
One account per person. Do not share logins, and do not use Sorty on someone else’s behalf without their knowledge. Do not create an account using someone else’s identity.
6. What you write stays yours
Everything you write in Sorty, your conversations, loads, journal entries and check-ins, belongs to you. You keep all rights to it.
You grant us only the limited permission needed to run the service: to store your content, show it back to you, process it so the companion can respond, and back it up. That permission exists solely to operate Sorty for you, and it ends when you delete the content or your account.
- ·We do not sell your content, and never will.
- ·We do not use it to train AI models, and our AI provider does not either.
- ·We do not use it for advertising, and there is no advertising in this product.
- ·We do not publish it or share it with anyone except as described in the privacy policy.
Your messages are sent to Anthropic’s API so the companion can respond. That is the only third party that sees your conversations, and they do not use API content to train their models. The privacy policy sets out the detail, including how content is encrypted and where the protection ends.
7. The community
Community posts are visible to other people using Sorty. Anonymous is the default, but treat anything you post there as public and do not share details you would not want traced back to you.
Be kind. In the community you must not:
- ·Harass, bully, threaten or abuse anyone.
- ·Encourage or instruct anyone in self-harm, suicide or disordered eating.
- ·Share another person's private information.
- ·Present yourself as a clinician, or give what amounts to medical advice.
- ·Advertise, solicit, or recruit for anything.
- ·Post content that is unlawful, or that infringes someone else's rights.
We remove posts and suspend accounts that break this, and we may do so without notice where someone’s safety is at stake. You can report content with the control on the post itself.
We are not obliged to monitor community content, and we do not pre-screen it. Posts reflect the views of the people who wrote them, not ours.
8. Using Sorty properly
You agree not to:
- ·Attempt to access anyone else's account or data.
- ·Probe, scan or test the security of the service, or circumvent any limit or access control.
- ·Scrape, crawl, or extract data by automated means.
- ·Reverse engineer the service, except where the law expressly permits it.
- ·Use the service to build a competing product, or to train a machine learning model.
- ·Overload the service, or interfere with anyone else's use of it.
- ·Use the service for anything unlawful.
Security research is welcome if you tell us first and give us a reasonable chance to fix what you find. Write to hello@gosorty.com.
9. Free and Plus
What is free
The core of Sorty is free with no time limit: sorting what you are carrying, working through it, the exercises, the community, and 100 messages with your companion.
What Plus costs and includes
Plus costs $29 a month or $290 a year and adds unlimited messages, the journal, mood tracking and progress insights. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax, which is calculated at checkout where it applies.
Billing, renewal and cancelling
- ·Plus renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- ·You can cancel at any time in Settings. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and you keep Plus until then.
- ·Payment is handled by Stripe. Your card details never touch our servers.
- ·If a payment fails we will retry it over several days. You keep access during that time.
Refunds
We do not refund part-used periods as a rule. If something has gone wrong, if you were charged unexpectedly, or if you subscribed by mistake, write to us and we will sort it out. Where you have a legal right to a refund or to cancel, such as a statutory cooling-off period, that right is unaffected by anything here.
Price changes
We may change prices. If we do, we will tell you at least 30 days before it affects you, and the change will never apply to a period you have already paid for. If you do not want the new price, cancel before it takes effect.
What you keep either way
Cancelling never costs you what you have written. Everything stays readable and exportable whether you subscribe, never subscribe, or subscribe and then stop. We will not hold your own words behind a payment.
10. Ending it
If you leave
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Privacy and data. That removes your conversations, loads, journal entries, check-ins and companion memories. Deletion is permanent and we cannot undo it, so export first if you want a copy.
If we have to end it
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, is used to harm someone, or is used to attack the service. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why and give you a chance to export your data first. For serious safety issues we may act immediately.
If the service ends
If we ever discontinue Sorty, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice and a way to export everything before it closes. If you have paid for a period that extends beyond the closure, we will refund the unused part.
11. What we do not promise
Sorty is provided as it is and as it is available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
We do not promise that:
- ·The service will always be available or uninterrupted.
- ·The companion will always be helpful, accurate, or appropriate to your situation.
- ·Using Sorty will improve how you feel, or produce any particular outcome.
- ·The crisis detection will identify every situation where you are at risk.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so parts of this may not apply to you.
12. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost opportunity, arising from your use of Sorty.
Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the greater of what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and any consumer rights you have that cannot be excluded by agreement. If you are a consumer, you keep all statutory rights your local law gives you.
13. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against us because of content you posted in the community, or because you used Sorty in a way these terms prohibit, you agree to cover the reasonable costs of defending it. This does not apply to claims arising from our own conduct, and we will tell you promptly about any claim and let you participate in the defence.
14. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you inside the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and update the date at the top. Carrying on using Sorty after that means you accept the new version. If you do not accept it, you can delete your account and, if you have paid for a period that extends beyond the change, ask us for a refund of the unused part.
15. Disputes and governing law
Talk to us first
If something has gone wrong, write to hello@gosorty.com before doing anything formal. Most things are fixable and we would rather fix them. We ask for 30 days to resolve it.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the State of Georgia, without regard to conflict of laws rules. The state and federal courts located in Georgia have jurisdiction over any dispute.
If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of mandatory consumer law in your own country, or of the right to bring proceedings there where your local law gives you that right.
If part of this is unenforceable
If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and that provision is applied as closely as possible to its original intent. If we do not enforce something straight away, that does not mean we have given up the right to.
16. Getting in touch
